Tom Coughlin said he was impressed by the "seriousness" players showed throughout the spring. Attendance at the voluntary aspects of the program was high, attention was paid to details, and the two full practices of this week's mandatory minicamp were lively.

The players also sensed that urgency.

"We know how important it is," running back Rashad Jennings said. "You have a good handful of guys coming back and we know what it felt like last year to be in this locker room. We saw some ups and downs, I think we eliminated some uncertainties in these OTAs and minicamp, and that's going to allow us to come back and be explosive."

Tom unsure of drones

Coughlin remains undecided about his newest tech toy. A day after experimenting with a drone to record a part of their minicamp practice, Coughlin said he's not certain if the team will continue to use the technology in training camp or beyond.

"The way it was presented to me is, 'Is this angle worth looking at?' '' Coughlin said Thursday of the brief trial run. "I'm not ready to say that because I just saw it one day and I saw it in a certain drill. Maybe there are drills where it would help."

Looking straight down on an inside play you have a tendency to speed through it and get to the end zone cut. But there may be something to it. I'm not ready to say one way or the other."

He added, with a grin: "I'm not one to stand in the way of advancement."

Giant steps

First-round pick Ereck Flowers signed his rookie contract. Details were not available on the four-year deal for the offensive lineman, but based on rookie slotting for the ninth overall selection it should be worth $14.4 million with an $8.7-million signing bonus. Flowers negotiated the deal without an agent. Second-round pick Landon Collins (safety) is the team's only unsigned draft pick . . . Archie Manning was a visitor at Giants practice for the first time. He did not, however, take any reps away from his son Eli. "He was kind of itching a little bit," quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan joked . . . S Mykkele Thompson sat out (hamstring) . . . Minicamp ended with TE Adrien Robinson dropping a pass from Ryan Nassib in the second string's two-minute drill.
