‘Tis the season of giving, and that’s exactly what these two teams have done for most of the year.
The Giants lead the NFL with 39 turnovers while the Lions are second with 31. The two teams have a combined turnover differential of minus-30. With the Giants offense struggling, defensive coordinator Perry Fewell put the pressure on his unit to force the Lions to keep up that pace.
“You’ve got to put your offense in positions and we’ve got to score on defense a little bit and we’ve got to do some things to generate some turnovers,” he said. “Obviously and we hope it’s an opportunistic day for us from that perspective.”
Oh, and in case you’re curious, the NFL record for most turnovers in a single game is 17 and it’s happened twice (once with the Lions playing the Bears in November 1942) but not since 1946. The record for most combined turnovers in a Giants game is 15, set with the Redskins in a 1963 game.
