As we creep up on the one year anniversary of the day Hakeem Nicks broke a bone in his foot during an OTA and essentially ruined his season (and the Giants’ season?), the wide receiver told Newsday's Steven Braid that he feels “as good as I have felt in a while.”

That’s a great sign for the Giants, who will be counting on Nicks to return to form in 2013. Just about everyone in the organization who is asked where the 2012 season went awry points swiftly to Nicks’ injuries. He battled through the broken bone in his foot that occurred on May 24, 2012, only to injure his knee in Week 2 and never fully recover.

Of course, right now, Nicks is only the second biggest concern for the Giants at wide receiver. It’s Victor Cruz and his absence from offseason training that tops the list at this point.

Nicks, who was honored with the “Hometown Hero” award from the United Way of New York City at Tuesday night’s 20th Annual Gridiron Gala in Manhattan, said he has kept in touch with Cruz even though they are not at the facility together.

" Nothing work-related,” Nicks said of their convos, “but just checking in to see how he'’s doing."

So will Cruz and the Giants come to an agreement anytime soon?

“I'm sure they will," Nicks said.
