And on the final day of football as we know it, the Giants appear to be ready to sign Domenik Hixon.
That’s what the wide receiver said on what seems to be his Facebook page last night, adding that the deal will be finalized today. And you thought Facebook was just there to usher in a new era of freedom in Egypt?
“God answers PRAYERS! My agent and I have been negotiating with the Giants and it looks like we have came to terms!” Hixon (or someone with access to his Facebook account) wrote. “Going to sign the papers in the a.m. and make this thing official! Thank God and all the support from family, friends and fans!!! Thank You and GO G-MEN!!!”
Hixon missed all of the 2010 season after blowing out his knee in a minicamp practice at New Meadowlands Stadium. He would have been useful during the season not only as a wide receiver – the Giants had to bring in players off the street to fill their depth chart due to so many injuries at the position – but on special teams as a returner.
In the last two days the Giants, who had seemed determined not to sign any players until a new CBA was hammered out, have signed two of their better kickoff returners in Hixon and D.J. Ware. Those two are also playing positions in the offense where the Giants have other higher-priority free agents-to-be who will almost certainly go into the lockout -- or whatever happens tonight – without a new contract. Those players are Ahmad Bradshaw and Steve Smith.
