Is there a Hoboken Curse? If there is, Eli Manning had best watch out!
Manning organized a few informal workouts at Hoboken High School during the summer, and several players showed up sporadically. A few of them were regulars. But it seems like the more time guys spent on the field at Hoboken, the worse their season has turned out.
Who was there regularly? Sage Rosenfels, who is now on IR with strep throat. Sam Giguere, who was waived/injured with a serious groin injury. Kevin Boss, who signed with the Raiders and injured his knee in the preseason opener. Michael Clayton, who was cut from the team as it trimmed to 53.
Even Dan DePalma, the Division II wide receiver who Boss brought to one of the workouts and who eventually landed in the Jets’ training camp, was cut.
Some escaped harm. So far. Hakeem Nicks showed up once and has shown no signs of it setting him back. And David Diehl was there for one workout and even caught a pass. Perhaps that’s why he was moved from left tackle to the less lucrative left guard spot.
And then there is Manning, who organized the events at Haunted Hoboken. He’s thrown two interceptions and zero touchdowns this preseason. If there is a curse, perhaps this will be a long regular season for him. Then again, Manning never actually drove to those workouts. Rosenfels was at the wheel as the two quarterbacks pulled in each day. Maybe Manning will be able to avoid the Hoboken High Hex.
Next time we'll study the effects of the Bergen Catholic Whammy which stems from workouts organized by Shaun O'Hara at which Ramses Barden said he hoped to be ready for the start of training camp.
