Jacobs on Plax to NYG: There's a chance

Brandon Jacobs, who on Thursday made it crystal clear that Plaxico Burress will not return to the Giants, today cracked that door open just a teensy tiny bit for his buddy as Burress was flying the friendly skies from Rome, NY to Ft. Lauderdale on his first day of freedom.

Jacobs was on Sirius NFL Radio with Rich Gannon and Adam Schein today and, well, let's just let the transcript tell the story:

Schein: “Do you think there’s any chance the Giants bring [Burress] back?”

Jacobs: “I mean, I think there’s a chance the Giants, I mean, I know they probably want him back. But with him having more options to pick from I don’t know how that’s going to work out.”

Schein: “Do you think Tom Coughlin would want Plaxico back?”

Jacobs: “No question about it. I do think so. Coach Coughlin wants to win, so he knew what we had was very special before this whole incident happened. The Giants want to win, Coach Coughlin wants to win, we want to win as a team and as an organization so it would be smart to make at least an attempt. But given the fact that he has a lot of other opportunities to play in other cities it may be kind of difficult.”

Gannon: “When you look at Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan, would he be a good fit with that crew in terms of coming back and being a member of the Giants?”

Jacobs: “He was with them once before and people saw what we did with him, with those same players. The only one new really is Hakeem. …[inaudible/phone cuts out]… What’s wrong with bringing him back to that same group and dominating the National Football League like we did when he was with us?”

On possible destinations for Plaxico:

Jacobs: “Knowing that [the Eagles] were one of the teams that came up throughout this whole thing I would say they have the better shot because of Michael Vick and them being Virginia natives and knowing each other and spending time with each other off the field. And [Vick] lobbied for him, saying that he wanted him. And I figure when the leader of your team makes comments like that and he does the things that he does to help your team win, I would think that you try to do your best, as management, and try to get him just that.”

“If you want me to be honest with you I think he’d be a good fit with the New York Giants. He’s my guy on and off the field so I would love for him to join us again.”

“The St. Louis Rams, that’s another team [that’s] got a young quarterback, got a bunch of young guys, and he’s familiar with Coach Spags and they got a couple other players that played on the Giants when he was playing with us that he’s also familiar with. So I wouldn’t rule them out either. There’s a bunch of teams out there that can use a dynamic, big-time wide receiver like Plax.”

“I think he’ll be a good fit in New Orleans, out there with Drew Brees and Marques Colston. I think he’d be a good fit in Indianapolis. There’s a bunch of different teams that could use that other side [receiver].”
