Brandon Jacobs chose Monday to make his first statements of training camp. He also made a bit of a fashion statement.

The running back wore a white T-shirt with blue lettering on it reading "Free 17 Let Him Ball Out." It was a reference to his imprisoned friend Plaxico Burress, who is serving time on felony weapons charges.

"We talked once a week before camp started," Jacobs said of his contact with Burress. "I'm just hoping for the best for him and his family. Hopefully, he can get out and continue his career."

Burress is not due to be released until next summer, but he recently applied for a work-release program and will find out early next month if that request is accepted or denied.

As for the shirt, Jacobs said it's a one of a kind.

"You won't see that anywhere unless you go and get it made just like I did," he said. "I just had it made. It only took a couple minutes, so you can get one, too."
