Jason Pierre-Paul underwent what he hopes will be the final surgery on his mangled right hand on Monday, a procedure he also hopes will allow him more use of that hand on the football field.

The defensive end and soon-to-be free agent posted an Instagram photo of himself on Monday as he was being prepped for the surgery on his right middle finger. He explained to reporters shortly before the end of the 2015 season that the surgery will improve his ability to grab with that hand and perhaps let him shed the heavy club wrap he used in his nine games this past season.

“I can’t grip out of my middle finger,” he said in December. “It can’t close right now. That’s the reason why I’m in the club. Once I have my surgery, I’ll be fine. I’m excited to actually get it done. Something I knew I had to get done at the end of the season.’’

Pierre-Paul lost his right index finger and the tip of his right thumb in a fireworks accident on July 4. The middle finger was left as a swollen lump. Monday’s surgery, which took place in New York, is expected to give him some maneuverability from what’s left of that digit.

“Lord I absolutely believe you have the power to heal,’’ Pierre-Paul wrote on the Instagram post. “If I can bring you more glory through healing, then that’s what I ask for.”

Spags stays

Despite overtures from the Eagles to poach him as their defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo “is not going anywhere,” a source told Newsday.

That should not come as a surprise, given the way Giants officials spoke about him at the news conference to announce the hiring of Ben McAdoo as head coach last week. McAdoo talked about how improved the defense should be in its second year under the system, a big hint that Spagnuolo will return. And co-owner John Mara dispelled concerns about McAdoo’s lack of head-coaching experience by including Spagnuolo on the staff.

“I think he will surround himself with the right people,” Mara said. “And he’s got a great resource in Steve Spagnuolo here who’s been a head coach. I’m sure Steve will help him a little bit.”

Staffing issues

The rest of McAdoo’s staff remains “fluid.” He had hoped to add former Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin on the offensive side, but Philbin was hired by the Colts . . . After the team’s three years at or near the top of the league in injuries, Giants strength and conditioning coach Jerry Palmieri is being reassigned . . . Defensive line coach Robert Nunn and offensive line coach Pat Flaherty were not retained and have interviewed elsewhere . . . Wide receivers coach Sean Ryan and special teams assistant Larry Izzo are joining the Texans. Linebackers coach Jim Herrmann was hired by the Colts.
