Jason Pierre-Paul is a free agent at the end of this season, and he has noticed the megacontract that Texans defensive end J.J. Watt recently signed. The six-year, $100-million deal with about $52 million in guarantees makes Watt the highest-paid defensive player in the league.
"He earned it, man," Pierre-Paul said. "You have to earn your money in this league. They're not just going to give it to you."
Pierre-Paul hasn't put up the same kind of numbers as Watt, but the Giants' defensive end can be just as dominant at times. So when it comes time to negotiate his deal, is that the kind of contract he'll be looking for?
JPP offered no clues.
"I just have to play, man," Pierre-Paul said. "The numbers will speak for themselves. But I'm all right. I'm blessed."
