No one knows whether Jason Pierre-Paul will be able to play football like he once did without his right index finger. But clearly it has altered his abilities on social media.
The defensive end took to Twitter on Sunday to issue his first public statement about the fireworks incident July 4 that left him with a damaged right hand and led to the removal of his index finger.
"What happened to me was not a setback," he wrote on his verified account. "God has greater plans for me. No man can judge me accepted God himself."
Pierre-Paul obviously meant "except" rather than "accepted." So a few minutes later, he posted again to Twitter to correct the mistake and show that he has not lost his sense of humor despite the accident.
"My bad except," he wrote. "Lost a finger LOL."
No one at the Giants is laughing out loud because, although the lines of communication have been opened between the player and the team, they have yet to examine the injured hand or view medical records that detail the extent of the damage.
There is no telling when Pierre-Paul might show up looking to sign his $14.8-million franchise-tag tender, and no indication that the Giants will allow him to until after a thorough examination.
In the meantime, the Giants wait. God may have greater plans for Jason Pierre-Paul, as he wrote. The Giants' plans for now are to move on without him.
