Jason Pierre-Paul has admitted that he has not been playing up to the 2011 standard he set for himself. But he also pointed out that neither is anyone on the team, really, and in fact this year’s roster might not be as good as that Super Bowl team.
“We had a number of studs on that team and we was able to get the job done,” Pierre-Paul said. “Here, this team, we’ve still got some similarities, but this is not, ‘We’re going to be here and you’re not coming this way.’ I don’t think we have that. It’s a totally different team from 2011 and even 2010. This is a whole new team.”
Less than two years removed from that championship team (which, you may recall, did not look very championship-like until late in the season), Pierre-Paul said that the Giants have to figure out a way to win with this new assemblage of talent.
“Each year you get guys from the draft and who are undrafted to make the team,” he said. “At the end of the day, that’s what you’ve got training camp for. You have time to see who is who and whether you can put this or that player in. Once you put the team together, the team’s just gotta go. You gotta get the job done.”
