Giants defensive end Justin Tuck lined up and worked with the starting defensive line Friday afternoon during the early portion of practice the media is permitted to watch. That has to count as improvement over Thursday when he didn't practice with a neck injury.

What that means in terms of whether Tuck will start or play Sunday in Washington is uncertain. Coach Tom Coughlin certainly will be asked for an update after practice today about 1:20.

The Friday practice is a walk-through, but Tuck was at left end for every play with the first unit. When they moved to the blocking sled, he took part in a drill in which the linemen get on their knees and punch out with both arms at the sled. It's not the same as hitting with the shoulders, but it's jarring physical contact and he was not held out of that drill.
