Jimmy Kennedy has played in one game since early October, missing four due to a suspension fro the league and the rest as an inactive player due to coaches decisions. He’s not happy about it. But if the Giants win the super Bowl with him on the team?
“Hopefully we’ll walk away with this ring and you won’t hear anything from me,” he said.
Kennedy said it is difficult to adjust to his role as basically a veteran practice squad player and mentor to the younger players.
“The coaches did a good job of telling me what my role is for this season,” he said. “To watch some guys initially it was definitely frustrating. The competitive part of me wants to be out there to play. But it’s a chance for me to make sure that I’m healthy, which I am, completely healthy, and help some of the younger guys. I’m definitely not satisfied with my role but I’m a pro. I’m a team guy. They ask something of me and I’ve been trying to do everything in my power to help us win. I do my part off the field when it comes to practices to help get our guys ready. Overall it’s definitely frustrating, but it’s rewarding right now.
“I’m fine with it,” he added. “I still have a lot of great years left. I respect these coaches because they ask something of me. They know that I still have it in me to go out there and get it done. My focus right now is on winning a Super Bowl. I signed a 1-year deal so hopefully God willing I’ll have an opportunity to take my talents elsewhere if not stay here.
“I take my role with this team with pride. I know what my role is. If my number is called I’m ready. If not, I know my role on the sideline, coaching, helping the young guys, helping Linval, seeing what I see.”
Kennedy will most likely be inactive for the Super Bowl. But if he gets in, what can we expect?
“Come on now,” he said. “Everyone knows when I’m on the field I make plays. It’s about making plays, doing what I can to help this team win. I’m all for being a team guy. That’s who I am. I went to Penn State. We didn’t have names on the back of our jersey because it’s all team. We all sit here and we say ‘All in,’ it’s not ‘I’m out,’ I’m excluded because I’m not out there on Sunday. I got my work in today, I’m helping my guys win, and hopefully we can go out there and leave with a championship.”
