It’s always hard to tell whether a player like Mario Manningham is just really excited about his new team or drawing comparisons to his old one. So I’ll relay these quotes with an open mind and assume that he is not saying that the 49ers are better than the Giants. You, however, are free to do so.

“Oh, man, I couldn’t ask for a better team, better teammates, better coaching staff, equipment managers, everybody else,” Manningham said. “Everybody over here is real cool, and down to earth.”

Manningham also spoke about the 49ers defense and again, although there were no direct comparisons, it sure sounds like he’s sizing up his former team with his current one.

Asked what it’s like to now be playing on the other side of this budding rivalry, Manningham said: “Just knowing that you’ve got a defense that’s going to back you up every Sunday. You want to go out there and play as an offense. Play good as a unit. Knowing that your defense can get a turnover at any time, knowing that they’ve got people that (when you) play wide receiver on the other side, better have their head on a swivel, or they’re going to get hit in their mouth. That’s how it is over here. I mean, you want to go out and play like everybody’s playing together as a unit.”
