If Martellus Bennett were still with the Cowboys, he’d be drawing a big crowd this week with the injury to Jason Witten. So we made him feel like home today by crowding around him and asking him about Jason Witten.
“I’m pretty sure that if he can he will play,” said Bennett, who was Witten’s backup for four years in Dallas. “A guy like Witten is a guy you’re always rooting for. He does great things, he’s been doing great things for a long time. I want to continue to see him do a lot of great things. He carries a lot of records, broke a lot of records, and I don’t think he’s missed one game in 26 years of playing and that’s pretty awesome.”
Twenty-six years? Well, something like that.
We also asked Bennett who the backup in Dallas is now that he’s here with the Giants.
“John Phillips, he’s a good tight end, he’s going to be good,” Bennett said. “I don’t know what they did in the draft or who they brought in or anything like that. It’s none of my business. I really don’t give a damn.
“John Phillips was there,” Bennett said. “Other than that I really don’t know. It’s not my problem.”
