If Darrelle Revis can fluster Hakeem Nicks on Saturday the way questions about Darrelle Revis seemed to irritate Nicks today, the Jets’ cornerback will have the better of the matchup.
“I ain’t about to turn this into the Hakeem Nicks vs. Darrelle Revis Show,” the Giants receiver said after several questions about the player most likely to be covering him on Saturday. “This is the Giants vs. the Jets. We’re going to come out there and play Giants football and they’ll play Jets football and whatever happens happens.”
Earlier in the conversation, though, Nicks did not seem particularly dwarfed by Revis’ greatness. Asked if Revis is the best corner in football, Nicks looked around the room and held silent for about 10 seconds.
“He’s a decent corner, he’s decent,” Nicks said after the silence. “There ain’t nothing to talk about. He’s a great player, I feel like I’m good. We’ll see how this goes.”
Great vs. good doesn’t sound like much of an advantage for Nicks.
“I’m great,” Nicks added to balance the fight.
As for beating Revis, Nicks said it’s a matter of making plays because you can’t expect Revis to make mistakes.
“He’s a guy you ain’t gonna just beat consistently,” Nicks said. “You just have to work your craft, go hard each play and make plays on him … He’s a guy you’re not going to just flatout beat on routes. You have to make plays on him. If you can make plays you’ll be good.”
