Hakeem Nicks took another step towards playing on Sunday by practicing today. Now the test will be to see if that step actually slows him down or not.

Nicks was in pads, running routes and catching passes from Eli Manning during drills in the early part of practice today. All seemed to be just fine. But the last time he did that, two weeks ago, he came in the next day with swelling on his knee and has missed the last two games because of it. The trick after today will be to see how he responds to the action. He did some running and cutting on the side yesterday, and apparently felt good enough to join the team on the field today.

If there are no setbacks, it would seem that Nicks would be available to play against the 49ers.

A few other injury notes from practice: Corey Webster (hamstring) started out on the bikes but joined the cornerbacks for drills and seemed to be practicing … Chase Blackburn (hip) was practicing a day after missing a workout … Martellus Bennett (knee) and Rocky Bernard (quad) were not practicing, but at one point Bernard was lining up against Bennett on a side field and allowing the TE to work on getting out of his stance and pushing against a pass rusher. Bernard probably won’t be ready for Sunday but it looks like Bennett might be … Kenny Phillips (knee) was on the bike a day after doing some running. Not sure if that was a setback or just a rest … Jayron Hosley (hamstring) was practicing fully, as was Keith Rivers (hamstring), from what we saw ... Andre Brown (concussion) was not on the field.
