Osi Umenyiora looked like a football player and not a cyclist today.

He wasn’t wearing any pads or even a helmet. He was in shorts and a jersey while the rest of the team was in full pads. And he wasn’t even on the same field as anyone else. But for about 10 minutes at the beginning of practice today, while the team was going through position and individual drills, Umenyiora was off to the side working on some football moves.

Progress, at least.

He was in a three-point stance, firing off on a snap by a staffer, rushing against invisible offensive linemen and sacking a phantom quarterback. At one point he even put a spin move on whoever it was he imagined was blocking him. He looked quick and didn’t seem to be in any discomfort. After a few of those reps he had ice applied to his knee. A little later he was riding that bicycle again, but only for a little while, and by the time practice was about halfway through he walked off the field and towards the main building. Presumably he was showering and changing before flying to Atlanta for his big appointment there tomorrow.
