Where'd everybody go?

That's always the first reaction when we see the first practice after cutdowns. For a month we've seen 80-90 players stretching on the field, running routes, working on techniques. Today, that number was trimmed almost in half. 53 players (51 of whom were on the field) plus seven practice squadders.

The two players missing were Osi Umenyiora (knee) and Prince Amukamara (foot). No surprises there, although Tom Coughlin had held out hope that Umenyiora would be able to play in the opener against the Redskins. Heck, he still might.

Travis Beckum was stretching and doing a few walk-through drills, but it was hard to tell if he was a full participant in the workout. He missed Thursday's game against the Patriots with an ankle injury.

The Giants have not yet filled in their 8th practice squad spot. Jim Cordle was on the field as expected and his status as a practice squadder will be announced by the team later today.

And now that the roster has been set -- apparently set in stone -- there are a few jersey changes:

Derrick Martin goes from 36 to 22.

Brian Williams goes from 43 to 29.

Da'Rel Scott goes from 34 to 33.

Spencer Paysinger goes from 49 to 55.

James Brewer goes from 73 to 79.
