The Giants are likely starting a rookie at middle linebacker on Sunday in Greg Jones. How would the Giants’ offense attack a young player thrust into such a role?
“You probably don’t know much about the guy that’s backing him up,” Kevin Gilbride said about game-planning when a starter goes down and an inexperienced player steps in. “You wait and see. Is it a guy that’s slow, then it’s probably better to run outside. Is it a guy that’s overreacting, then you’d probably run some misdirection and counter stuff to exploit the fact that he’s running all over the place with his head cut off. Is he a guy that’s going to overreact to the run, then you’d probably practice the play action pass. It depends on the individual guy, where you would think he would be.”
