Meanwhile …

The Giants aren’t only filling their roster with free agents and breaking down their salary cap today. They also announced the completion of their coaching staff. The names had been reported previously, but this announcement makes them official.

Matt Rhule, who was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Temple, will be the Giants’ assistant offensive line coach. Lunda Wells, an assistant at LSU, will be the offensive assistant.

Rhule replaces Jack Bicknell Jr., who left to take the job as offensive line coach (sans the assistant in his title which he had here) of the Chiefs. Wells replaces Kevin M. Gilbride, who was moved up to wide receivers coach to replace Sean Ryan, who was moved up to quarterbacks coach to replace Mike Sullivan, who took the job of offensive coordinator with the Bucs.

Rhule and Gilbride coached together at Temple, by the way. Rhule also played at Penn State where he was a linebacker.

Wells has been on the LSU staff since 2008, when he started as a volunteer. More recently, he was responsible for preparing breakdowns of tape and helping with special teams preparations. The Tigers’ special teams coach is Thomas McGaughey, who was an assistant with the Giants from 2007-10.
