Starting safety Bennett Jackson was on the field in the fourth quarter of Saturday night's preseason game because of all the injuries.
Then he got injured, too.
Word in the locker room around the players after the game was that Jackson suffered an ACL injury to his right knee and could be lost for the season. He'll have an MRI on Sunday.
Jackson made a tackle midway through the fourth along the Jaguars' sideline and immediately clutched his right knee. He missed almost all of his rookie season with an injury, as well. He was able to walk off the field, waving away a cart that had come to remove him.
Jackson's injury along with the fractured ankle suffered earlier in the game by Justin Currie left the Giants with just three healthy safeties in the game. Nat Berhe, who has yet to practice fully this preseason, is expected back this week, but that did little to assuage the team's concern at the position.
"It's earmarked as a problem position and to get two guys hurt is tough," Tom Coughlin said. "It's just hard to even comment on it."
Beason sprains knee
Jon Beason left Saturday night's game in the first quarter with what the team called a sprained left knee. He spent the remainder of the first half on the bench with the knee heavily packed in ice.
Beason has not played a 16-game season since 2010.
It was unclear when Beason suffered the injury, but he was involved in several plays early in the game. He was caught in coverage against wide receiver Allen Robinson on a 36-yard reception and later in the drive broke up a potential touchdown pass intended for Denard Robinson.
Jameel McClain replaced Beason at middle linebacker. McClain played in his first preseason game after missing the opener last week with a neck injury.
McClain played middle linebacker most of last year and led the team in tackles playing in place of Beason, who missed all but four games in 2014 with toe and foot injuries.Even before Beason left the game, the Giants had plenty of injury headaches. The long list of Giants who did not play included WR Julian Talley (toe), CB Prince Amukamara (groin), S Landon Collins (knee), CB Chykie Brown (knee), CB Jayron Hosley (concussion), S Nat Berhe (calf), S Cooper Taylor (toe), CB Chandler Fenner (hamstring), LB Jonathan Casillas (neck), G Brandon Mosley (back), WR Victor Cruz (calf), WR Rueben Randle (knee) and DE George Selvie (knee).
