Fans are always trying to get their hands on tickets. Now they can get their faces on them too.
The Giants have an interesting promotion that began today in which 10 lucky fans will have their picture printed on the tickets for one of the home games scheduled for 2011 (the caveat, of course, being the big “if” when it comes to the 2011 season).
According to the Giants, fans can enter the contest that will determine this season’s ticket faces by submitting a story and photo that show their Giants pride. The Giants will narrow the pool of entries to 20 finalists. Starting May 18, Giants fans will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite story on Facebook.com/NewYorkGiants. This is the first time in team history fans will be highlighted on the face of Giants game tickets.
“We want to recognize the greatness of Giants fans in a timeless and meaningful manner, and this program aims to achieve that mission,” said Mike Stevens, Giants Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer. “Ultimately, through our Facebook Page fans will democratically select other fans to be pictured on our 2011 tickets; a true first in our 86-year history. The foundation of the Giants’ rich tradition is an incredibly loyal and strong fan base, and through the power of social media this program will enable us to celebrate Giants fans and their great stories. This is going to be a lot of fun.”
Winners won’t get to chose which game they represent; the Giants will do that. And no, there’s no chance that the fan on the ticket won’t be able to afford to get into the game (What kind of cynical mind would conjure that? Well, it was my first thought). If you’re on the ticket, you get two of the for free and get to take part in a special recognition at the game.
Oh, and if you’re one of the 20 who get to be a finalist but are too unsightly to make it to the 10 winning pictures, don’t despair. You’ll still get a gift card for $200 worth of Giants merchandise.
