No surprises on the pre-practice injury report today.
There are seven players listed, and my guess is that six of them will not practice today. Will Beatty (foot), David Diehl (hip/hamstring), Madison Hedgecock (hamstring), Shaun O’Hara (foot), Darius Reynaud (hamstring), and Osi Umenyiora (knee). The seventh is Gerris Wilkinson, who practiced all last week with a cast on his broken left hand.
Ironically, Wilkinson will probably not play on Sunday.
“In order to tackle and do the things you have to do as a linebacker, you really have to have some way to wrap and what he’s being forced to wear right now is very similar to what Rich Seubert wore, except Rich didn’t have to tackle anybody, so it’s difficult for Gerris to wrap under the circumstances,” Tom Coughlin said of his decision to sit Wilkinson against the Seahawks. “With a little bit more healing, perhaps they can make that cast not quite as awkward to him as he attempts to use his fingers and hands in tackling.”
We’ll also get a first peek at how the Giants plan on reconfiguring their offensive line in the wake of several injuries. Most suspect we’ll see Rich Seubert at center, Chris Snee and Kareem McKenzie on the right side, and Shawn Andrews at left tackle. That leaves left guard as the big opening. Will it be rookie Mitch Petrus or just-off-PUP Kevin Boothe?
We’ll have a better idea later today.
