Clint Sintim spent the entire first half of last night's game on the sideline, standing there sometimes adjusting his jersey or stretching his back. Whatever he was doing, he was not on the field with the defense.
Has Keith Bulluck taken over as the starting outside linebacker? Nope. Sintim was actually going to start at the position last night. But because the Ravens were so focused on throwing the football, the Giants had to stay in a nickel package for almost the entire first half. Sintim comes off the field in the nickel. So he wasn't replaced by Bulluck as a starter. in a way he was replaced by cornerback Courtney Brown.
The Giants played with Jonathan Goff and Michael Boley the first two series, and then, as scripted, Bulluck came in for the third series. He played the MIKE in the nickel, replacing Goff, and was at the SAM on the handfull of snaps when the Giants were in a base look.
So don't count Sintim out yet ... unless the other team wants to pass.
By the way, how did Bulluck look in his first extended playing time as a Giant? Tom Coughlin said because there were so many passes it was hard to tell without watching the tape. Bulluck himself said the Ravens' no-huddle was a challenge for him on several fronts.
"It was hard to get comfortable at all because of the tempo that Baltimore set," he said. "I tried to do the best that I could. It was a good test of my endurance as well as me having the calls come in quick and getting people lined up. So it was a great test for me and I think it was a great test and an eye-opener for our defense."
