Steve Spagnuolo did not deal well with the initial news of losing Jason Pierre-Paul to sports hernia surgery.

“Nobody,” the Giants defensive coordinator admitted on Thursday, “is as crushed as I am and he is.”

Good thing, it turns out, because the Giants still have four games to play, including Sunday night’s showdown against the Cowboys. That doesn’t leave much time to be “crushed,” and Spagnuolo said he has not seen any evidence of a pall on his defense despite the obviously bad situation.

“This is a confident, bold group,” Spagnuolo said. “I haven’t seen anybody blink. I go in those meetings and out on the field and I don’t see anybody blinking. Hopefully we can put something together on the field without JPP that is going to make everybody proud.”
