Just one last item before we head out to see the hour-long practice that the team will have to get everyone back into the routine of working following the bye, and it’s about Kevin Gilbride Jr. as well.
I asked quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan about him and he gave me some great insight. Turns out they actually met several years ago through a mutual friend, Steve Russ who is now coaching at Wake Forest.
“Kevin M. Giolbride has been outstanding,” Sullivan said. “He is a problem-solver. He’s very detailed. He has a great work ethic. I think his perspective, his insight, he grew up around the game and around his father, I’m really excited about him. I think he’s got a bright future. I think the world of him.”
So much so that a few years ago when Sullivan was considering the head coaching job at Army, he knew that he would try to bring Gilbride Jr. there with him.
“If I had pushed forward with that, if that was something I ended up doing, one of the first guys I would have wanted to hire would have been Kevin,” Sullivan said. “He’s tremendous … I’m sure it’s got to be a little bit of a balancing act with his dad right there, but he’s just a rising star in the NFL coaching profession.”
