The Ballad of Jake Ballard has come to an end

Undrafted rookie tight end Jake Ballard, who injured his hamstring just a few plays after Steve Smith pulled up lame with a groin injury almost two weeks ago, has been waived/injured by the Giants to make room for Dominic Randolph.

Tough break for Ballard. First his injury gets no notice because it is overshadowed by Smith's. Then he's kumped in with the other injured tight ends for most of his recovery period. And now he gets tossed out to make room for a quarterback whose signing was made necessary by a freakishly bloody injury to the starting quarterback and a sore shoulder on the backup quarterback.

Hopefully he'll take a lesson from Randolph and stay in shape because you never know who's going to call when. Hey, last week the Giants might have brought him in as a tight end if he were on the street.

We just finished speaking with Kevin Gilbride, the offensive coordinator. He was in a bit of a rush, so I never got to ask him about his favorite Jake Ballard moment from camp. Maybe next time.
