It's a running gag for the Giants. Tom Coughlin greets the team, doesn't like the energy of their response, then greets them again to a more raucous reaction. Wednesday, though, the exchange turned into a barometer of the team's mental health.
"I give them a 'Good morning, men!' and they [mumble]," Coughlin said Wednesday as the Giants were still trying to shake off Sunday's 38-31 collapse against the Eagles. "Then I give it to them again, and they jump up and down. They were fine with that."
That back-and-forth aside, Coughlin said he found the team to be "a little quiet" at the outset of the week's preparation for the Packers game. "But I think they'll be all right," Coughlin said. "They'll come around."
"Just like every Wednesday," was how Eli Manning described the mood. "The last game is over with, whether you win, lose or tie. Now you go on to the next week and prepare. That's how football players are trained. You've been doing this for long enough, you understand that Wednesday is a new week and you have a new game to prepare for."
As fan voting for the Pro Bowl came to a close, the Giants had two players leading at their positions. One was safety Antrel Rolle. The other, more of a surprise, was center Shaun O'Hara, who has played in only five games this season. The fan voting counts for only one-third of the decision-making process - players and coaches vote this week to make up the other two-thirds - and the Pro Bowl rosters will be announced Dec. 28.
DE Dave Tollefson, who sprained his MCL Sunday, said he's feeling "better every day" and is hoping to be back to running next week. . . . Tollefson and T David Diehl (illness) were the only Giants who did not practice yesterday. . . . WR Mario Manningham (heel) was limited.
