- Since the current playoff format was set up in 1990, 18 teams with a losing record after nine games have made the playoffs. Last year, the Redskins (3-6) and Bengals (4-5) both made the playoffs.

- Is Ray Rice falling off a cliff? The Ravens’ running back insists he’s not, the team insists he’s not, but the numbers are disturbing. Rice is averaging 2.5 yards per carry, nearly two yards less than his career average. He’s on pace for just 578 rushing yards, which would be the first time he’d finish with less than 1,000 yards since he became a starter in 2009.

- The 9-0 Chiefs face the 8-1 Broncos on Sunday night in a game with massive consequences in the AFC West. The combined winning percentage between the two teams (.944) is the highest for a game this late in the season since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.

- With two touchdown passes, Peyton Manning would produce his third season of 35 or more passing touchdowns, tying Tom Brady and Brett Favre for the most in NFL history.

- Sunday’s Jets-Bills game features two of the top rookie defensive players in the NFL this season: defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson of the Jets and linebacker Kiko Alonso of the Bills. Alonso has a team-high 99 tackles, one forced fumble, four interceptions and four passes defensed, while Richardson has 41 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defensed.
