All quiet on Cortland front

When I arrived in Cortland a week ago today I encountered pretty much what one would have expected given Tebowmania:

It was difficult to find a place to work in the press room, Rex Ryan's news conference had to be moved to a larger room to accommodate all of the cameras and reporters and there were few leftover cookies, cupcakes and/or brownies after the media lunch was served.

Now? Ryan is back in the smaller interview room he usually appears in, and today only two cameras were there to record the event: from the Jets themselves and SNY, their local TV partner.

ESPN's Ron Jaworski and Hannah Storm are gone, along with the live, daily reports they did from Monday through Thursday.

There is ample elbow room in the press box.

And, most importantly of all, there are more leftover cookies, cupcakes and/or brownies than even the hungriest of beat writer groups could possibly consume.

The public even was barred from Friday morning's practice, giving it an eerily quiet feel compared to the customary training camp festival.

This won't last, of course. There is an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday night and soon preseason games will commence.

But for now . . . peace.
