Brad Smith is out, Drew Coleman is in

The Jets won't have one of their big weapons available for today's AFC divisional matchup with the Patriots here at Gillette Stadium.

Brad Smith's groin injury apparently hasn't healed sufficiently and the versatile wide receiver/kick returner is inactive, meaning the kick return duties likely go to cornerback Antonio Cromartie. Rookie running back Joe McKnight is also active however, and he could certainly see duties returning kickoffs.

But it remains to be seen what the Jets do with their Wildcat package with Smith out. LaDainian Tomlinson could get the call if they decided to still go with it.

Starting nickel back Drew Coleman is active and playing, just as a source told me Thursday -- when Coleman initially suffered his knee injury -- would happen. We'll see how effective he is.

The rest of the Jets' inactives: LB Vernon Gholston, FB John Conner, DT Jarron Gilbert, TE Matthew Mulligan, TE Jeff Cumberland and DT Marcus Dixon. Kellen Clemens is the third quarterback.

As for the Patriots' inactives, DL Myron Pryor, WR Taylor Price, RB Fred Taylor, RB Thomas Clayton, CB Tony Carter, LB Marques Murrell, OL Rich Ohrnberger and T Mark LeVoir.

Time for talk is done. We're about a half hour away from kickoff. Enjoy the game.
