FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Six players began the first day of training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list, including offensive linemen Breno Giacomini and James Carpenter.

Giacomini could miss more than a week with a back injury, according to coach Todd Bowles. Carpenter tweaked his hamstring recently. Brent Qvale and Ben Ijalana split reps in place of Giacomini at right tackle and Dakota Dozier filled in exclusively at left guard for Carpenter.

As expected, defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson (leg) also is on the PUP list, along wide receiver Devin Smith (ACL), running back Khiry Robinson (knee) and cornerback Kendall James.

Forte, Revis sit

Running back Matt Forte also didn’t practice because of a tweaked hamstring, Bowles said. Cornerback Darrelle Revis (wrist) spent most of practice working on the far field with a trainer. Both players are day-to-day.

Punter Hackett waived

To make room for Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets waived rookie punter Tom Hackett. The Jets signed the Melbourne, Australia, native as an undrafted free agent after selecting fellow Australian Lachlan Edwards in the seventh round of this year’s draft.
