Unless you are an ardent Fresno State fan or a relative of Clint Stitser, his signing with the Jets has probably left you with a blank look on your face. Yes, THAT Clint Stitser who converted just 71 percent of his field goal attempts for the Fresno State Bulldogs up through the 2007 season and has been out of football ever since – that’s two years with no NFL experience – has been signed by the Jets.
What does this mean? Well, Nick Folk can exhale for a few weeks. Jets fans, however, might be holding their breath. The Jets lost Jay Feely to the Cardinals as a free agent and then missed out on the guy he replaced, Neil Rackers, who signed with the Texans.
Of course, there’s a good chance that neither Folk not Stitser will be the team’s kicker when the season opens in September. The Jets could pick up another veteran as training camp approaches. Or they could await the expected duel between Rackers and Kris Brown in Houston to be settled and pick up the loser of that battle.
Either way, it should be good for a decent 15-minutes of storytelling on “Hard Knocks” this summer.
