New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft hosted a ring ceremony at his house Sunday evening for his 2014 Super Bowl team. But there was one noticeable absence: Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis.
Revis, who re-signed with the Jets in March after helping the Patriots beat Seattle in the 2015 Super Bowl, did not attend Kraft's shindig because he had a scheduling conflict, according to a source. But the Patriots wouldn't even allow a Revis family member to go in his stead.
According to sources, Revis' mother, Diana Askew, planned to take her son's place at the ceremony. But only after flying to Boston was she told that she would not be able to serve as a substitute for her son.
Revis' cousin, Jimmy Moore, tweeted details before later deleting the post.
"Darrelle's mom is not at the ring ceremony bc she was told by the Patriots, after flying to NE that the ticket was 'non transferable,' " Moore wrote.
According to the Boston Globe, a Patriots spokesman said Revis' mom did not show up at Kraft's home and she was "not turned away." One of the sources said that Askew is expected to receive Revis' ring sometime Monday before she flies back home.
