The Jets will place cornerback Dee Milliner on short-term injured reserve, a source confirmed to Newsday.

That means he'll have to miss the first eight weeks of the season before he can be activated to the 53-man roster. The Jets, however, have a bye in Week 5.

Milliner, the ninth overall pick in the 2013 draft, underwent surgery last month after he injured his wrist during practice on Aug. 6. At the time, the Jets announced his recovery timetable would be six to eight weeks.

Milliner's wrist surgery marks the seventh procedure for the former Alabama star.
