The Jets will have a makeover at safety this season after releasing Eric Smith and losing LaRon Landry as a free agent. One of the spots will be taken by Landry's older brother, Dawan, who was signed last month, and the other will be up for grabs, according to defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman.

"We lost LaRon and picked up Dawan," Thurman told Jets' season ticket holders on a conference call today. "They're polar opposites, but they're great football players. As far as the other starter is concerned, Antonio Allen, Josh Bush and Jaiquawn Jarrett, who we liked coming out of Temple. It will be a pretty intense battle for the other safety position. They're not lacking in ability. They're lacking in experience. We feel we have three viable candidates who can perform at the highest level."
