According to Newsday's Roderick Boone, the Jets have traded veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason to the Houston Texans.
This season, Mason has 13 receptions for 115 yards. However, in Week 5 against the Patriots, he saw his production plummet, finishing with one catch for seven yards.
Mason played in just six plays against the Patriots, leading to speculation that the first-year Jet was benched due to critical comments he made of the team following a Week 4 loss to the Raiders. Ryan denied that was the case, though, saying that the decision was to give rookie Jeremy Kerley more playing time.
The Houston Chronicle first reported the trade on Twitter.
The Texans, who are sending the Jets a conditional draft pick, have a hole at wide receiver due to an injury to Andre Johnson. Johnson had hamstring surgery, and it is unlikely he will be ready in time for Houston's Week 6 game against the Ravens.
Without their star wideout, Houston's offense struggled against the Oakland Raiders last Sunday in a 25-20 loss.
In his career, Mason has 937 receptions for 12,006 yards and 66 touchdowns.
