CORTLAND – For the first time since his hamstring injury, Jeremy Kerley was on the practice field.
Albeit not for very long.
The Jets slot receiver started the day on the stationary bike with the rest of the rehab group, but Kerley later got on to the field to field live punt returns.
“I’m feeling good man,” Kerley said, still wearing his helmet after practice.
It was a welcome sign for the second-year receiver, who has missed every single training camp practice except the first one. Head coach Rex Ryan initially thought Kerley would miss a week, but Kerley’s injury lingered for far longer.
After days of fielding passes from the Jugs machine, Kerley was excited to get back on the field.
“Just a light jog, not trying to overdue it,” he said. “Just trying to keep (up) my conditioning.”
Before practice, Ryan said he hoped Kerley would be back on the field by the end of the week. Hours later, the receiver was far more convinced of the timetable.
“Definitely,” he said. “I’ve been out too long.”
