The Bears announced Friday that they have hired Matt Cavanaugh as their new quarterbacks coach.
Cavanaugh spent the past four years coaching Mark Sanchez, who reached the AFC Championship Games in each of his first two seasons. But under Cav’s tutelage, Sanchez struggled in 2011 and 2012, committing more turnovers than any other quarterback in that same span.
The presence of backup Tim Tebow this past season seemed to only compound the Jets’ offensive issues.
But now that new Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell has put the kibosh on those expected Tebow-to-Jacksonville headlines this offseason, it’s only fitting that the Tebow-to-Chicago rumor mill gets going.
Not only does Cav have experience coaching Tebow, but new Bears head coach Marc Trestman was hired as Tebow’s personal tutor in 2010 prior to the Senior Bowl and the draft.
But don’t forget: the Bears also have Jay Cutler.
And unlike Sanchez, he’s not shy about showing his frustration.
