So what the Jets are the only team not to score a touchdown through two preseason games, we’re talking about the preseason. That’s the sentiment from Jets No. 1 wide receiver Santonio Holmes, who has been out of the lineup with injuries to his ribs and back.
“It’s the preseason. Last I checked it counts September and I think our guys will get the ball rolling come September,” Holmes said.
Holmes, who wore a red no-contact jersey during Thursday’s practice, hopes to make his preseason debut against Carolina on Sunday. Jets coach Rex Ryan and quarterback Mark
Sanchez were both complementary of Holmes and Jeremy Kerley (hamstring) who may also play on Sunday.
“I think Mark just missed smiling at me on the field,” Holmes said. “I’m excited just as well as the guys are to see me back on the field but we got to take it one step at a time and make sure we have no setbacks come September.
“I’m good I would say I’m ready to roll but I know the trainers wouldn’t like to hear that from me right about now. I got to take it one day at a time, I can’t push it too early right now and just wait and see.”
