Jets add Folk

We're 10 days away from the official start of free agency and what should be an exciting few weeks filled with quite a bit of activity thanks to the situation with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The Jets have restrictions on what free agents -- excluding players cut by other teams -- they can sign, remember, because of their "final eight status." But they might've signed a replacement for K Jay Feely, adding K Nick Folk to the mix, according to an ESPN report.

Considering Folk's struggles near the end of the 2009 season, it's a bit of a curious signing. Folk led the NFL with 10 misses, going 18-of-28 and misfiring on seven of his last 11 before the Cowboys parted ways with the 25-year-old on Dec. 21 and replaced him with Shaun Suisham.

Feely finished tied for third in the NFL in field goal makes, drilling 30-of-36 attempts in the regular season though he missed two of five tries in the postseason. He's an unrestricted free agent so apparently GM Mike Tannenbaum is doing his usual due dilligence as always just in case.

Feely, in an interview with, said he'd like to remain with the Jets and doesn't want to really even test the free agency waters. This could be a case of the Jets staging a good old fashioned kicking duel as they gear up for the 2010 campaign, so we'll see how this shakes out over the coming days.

While we're at it, here's a list of the Jets' full list of impending free agents, which of course, doesn't include the likes of players that they could potentially release because they are due roster bonuses, such as CB Lito Sheppard or RB Thomas Jones.

Unrestricted Free Agents: LS James Dearth, DE Marques Douglas, LB Ryan Fowler, TE Ben Hartsock, LB Larry Izzo, FB Tony Richardson.

Restricted Free Agents: DB James Ihedigbo, LB Marques Murrell, WR Wallace Wright.

Update (5:29 p.m.): The Jets have confirmed the signing and also informed us they've added free agent G/T Michael Turkovich.

Turkovich, 23, was signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent and was released August 3 after suffering a knee injury during training camp. He was placed on injured reserve and received an injury settlement on August 7.
