The Jets have hired Karl Dunbar as the team's defensive line coach, one of a few moves they announced today after finalizing their coaching staff.
Bob Sutton was promoted to assistant head coach/linebackers and Lance Taylor has been promoted to assistant tight ends coach/quality control. Justus Galac and Paul Ricci have been brought on board as assistant strength and conditioning coaches.
Additionally, Matt Cavanaugh will return as the team’s quarterbacks coach. There was some thought new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano might want to bring in someone new to work with quarterback Mark Sanchez, but Cavanaugh will be back for a fourth season.
Dunbar comes to the Jets after spending the last six seasons as the Vikings defensive line coach, working with the likes of Kevin William, Jared Allen and Pat Williams. He played for the Steelers, Saints and Cardinals during his NFL career, last playing in 1995.
Dunbar replaces Mark Carrier, who was hired by the Bengals as their defensive backs coach today.
Galac served as Villanova's strength and conditioning coach for the last seven years, and Ricci spent nine seasons on the Ravens' strength and conditioning staff, so he's familiar with Rex Ryan.
