Kicker Nick Folk and punter Steve Weatherford - accompanied by assistant special teams coach Ben Kotwica - took a road trip to New Meadowlands Stadium today to get better suited with the wind patterns there.
"They said it was nothing we hadn't seen or expected," special teams coach Mike Westhoff said. "They're trying to get a little bit of a feel for it."
It was the first time they've made such a trip to East Rutherford for a practice session, but Westhoff downplayed the significance of it, stressing that they get a good deal of different wind patterns to practice in at their Florham Park facility.
"There will be wind, of course," Westhoff said. "You have to adjust to it... But just from what I've seen, and I've only been coming to this stadium for 30 years, it's the best I've seen it. There's some, but it's reasonable, very reasonable."
As for Folk's three missed field goals in Cleveland last Sunday, Westhoff gave him a slight pass, saying the field was "a joke... a disgrace." Folk missed from 24, 47 and 48 yards.
"Am I making an excuse? Absolutely not," Westhoff said. "We play under these conditions. You have to be able to fight through it. The short kick, I don't care if you kick that one backwards, you should be able to make that."
