Jets kicker Jason Myers, who had missed one extra-point attempt in 25 tries this season, missed two on Saturday. What gives?
“The first one, just pushed a little bit,” Myers said. “The second one I hit good. I just didn’t play enough wind, I don’t think, and it kind of fell left on me.”
What happened to Jets tackle Brandon Shell in the third quarter?
He suffered a knee injury and had to be carted off the field. Players from both teams surrounded the cart to comfort Shell. Jets coach Todd Bowles said he will get an MRI on Sunday. Asked how bad it is, Bowles said: “They don’t know yet. They’re not sure.”
Any other injuries?
Wide receiver Rishard Matthews exited in the third quarter with a hamstring injury. Safety Darryl Roberts suffered a toe injury.
What do Houston coach Bill O’Brien and star J.J. Watt think about Sam Darnold?
Said O'Brien, “He has a great future in this league. He didn’t do anything tonight that surprised me, but I will say that his ability to keep plays alive, his ability to take a hit and keep coming, his ability to get the ball down the field . . . He is a great player.”
Watt added, “I told him he’s a good player. He ran around all night, made a lot of plays on the run. He can scramble. He can make throws. He’s a good player. And obviously he’s young and he’s got a great future ahead of him, so I told him he’s a great player and good luck.”
How many flags were thrown when Houston linebacker Bernardrick McKinney took off his helmet in the end zone and threw it to the ground in protest after Elijah McGuire’s 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter?
Four. McKinney was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct by four different officials. He apparently felt it was illegal or at least a little shady for McGuire to have been essentially carried into the end zone by the Jets’ offensive line after the running back appeared to have been stopped at the 2.
Was it illegal or a little shady?
No. It was pretty cool.
How full was the stadium?
About what you’d expect on a late Saturday afternoon 10 days before Christmas when the home team is 4-9 and playing a non-division team with zero rivalry. The stands were about three-quarters full, and the fans were into it, especially when the Jets took their only lead of the game with 5:00 left. But the Jets lost to a superior team and are 4-10.
But it’s a moral victory, right?
Said Bowles, “We don’t have moral victories here.”
