Needing a wide receiver to offset the expected loss of free agent Plaxico Burress, the Jets plan to host Chaz Schilens, according to a source.
Schilens, 26, is a big target with speed -- two components the Jets are sorely lacking in their current collection of wide receivers. The 6-4, 225-pounder caught 23 passes for 271 yards and had two touchdowns this past season with the Raiders. He had four catches for 31 yards in their September win over the Jets.
In his four seasons in Oakland, Schilens posted seven touchdowns and 902 yards on 72 receptions.
He's obviously familiar with new wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal, who was with the Raiders from 2007 through this past season. Lal served as Oakland's wideout coach the last three years before new general manager Reggie McKenzie came in and got rid of Hue Jackson's staff.
