The Jets clearly sensed a change was needed in their running game.
They announced Tuesday evening that they signed free-agent FB Lex Hilliard to the active roster and waived WR Patrick Turner.
The Jets also re-signed rookie draft-pick WR Jordan White to the practice squad and released CB Donnie Fletcher.
The news of Hilliard's signing was first announced on Twitter by Pro Football Talk, which cited "a league source."
Hilliard was released by the Patriots on Sept. 19 -- 15 days after he signing with New England. In two games under Bill Belichick, he rushed for only two yards on one carry.
The 28-year-old was drafted by Miami in 2008 (sixth round) and played four seasons under Tony Sparano. He signed with Minnesota this offseason, but was one of the team's final roster cuts. He then was picked up by New England in September.
Last Tuesday, the Jets signed running back Jonathan Grimes off the Texans practice.
