The Jets signed RB Jonathan Grimes from the Houston Texans' practice squad Tuesday.
The 5-10, 209-pound running back entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Texans in May. He was waived after the preseason before being signed to the team's practice squad earlier this month.
During the 2012 preseason, Grimes carried 28 times for 130 yards (4.6 average) and one touchdown. The Palmyra, N.J. native left William & Mary as the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards (4,541), all-purpose yards (7,955), kickoff return yards (2,289) and rushing attempts (936) and earned 11 all-conference honors, the most in Colonial Athletic Association history.
The Jets also have added Donnie Fletcher to the practice squad, according to the cornerback's Twitter page (@FletchWHSH)
"It's been a crazy couple of days. Wish I could have gotten that opportunity. But back on practice squad."
Fletcher was signed to the active roster Saturday after the team released veteran LB Bryan Thomas. Fletcher, however, was no activated for Sunday's win over Miami and then waived Monday when the Jets re-signed Thomas.
