A day after sixth-round pick Terrance Ganaway scored the only Jets touchdown of the preseason, the team waived the former Baylor running back, along with six others late Friday to finalize their 53-man roster.

The Jets – who cut their roster to 60 this morning – announced the final roster cuts about 15 minutes after the 9 p.m. deadline. The additional names included: seventh-round pick Jordan White, Royce Pollard, Paul Cornick, Donnie Fletcher, Ricky Sapp (high ankle sprain) and former rugby player Hayden Smith.

The final seven likely are practice squad candidates.

It appears to be just a numbers game with Ganaway, given the fact that the Jets have a featured back in Shonn Greene, plus Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight behind him. Pollard suffered a torn labrum – and not a dislocated shoulder as previously thought – on the final play of Thursday’s loss to the Eagles, but is not expected to require surgery.

The Jets, who had 75 players coming into Thursday night’s preseason loss, cut their roster down to 60 Friday morning. They waived WR Joseph Collins, LB Marcus Dowtin, T Robert Griffin (Ganaway’s Baylor teammate, who was selected one spot behind him in the sixth-round), G Fredrick Koloto, C Matt Kroul, P Spencer Lanning, CB LeQuan Lewis, TE Tarren Lloyd, S D’Anton Lynn, CB Julian Posey, DE Jay Richardson, WR Eron Riley, LB Brett Roy, QB Matt Simms and NT Martin Tevaseu.

Surprisingly, they kept T Dennis Landolt (subluxed knee).

Players waived this past Thursday and Friday can be claimed off waivers starting at noon on Saturday. (In other words, stay tuned.)
