Aaron Maybin's stay on the Jets' initial 53-man roster was rather brief.

A day after Rex Ryan said the linebacker did enough to earn one of the three final spots on the team with his play in Thursday's preseason finale, the Jets waived him, ending his three-plus week stint with the team. They also waived DT Martin Tevaseu and DB Isaiah Trufant.

The Jets also announced they placed rookie QB Greg McElroy on injured reserve, ending his season after suffering a dislocated right thumb against the Eagles. He had surgery on Friday.

Old friend Kevin O'Connell, who played parts of two seasons with the Jets, was signed off waivers to serve as the No. 3 quarterback. Waived by the Dolphins, O'Connell is already familiar with the Jets' system and became buddies with Sanchez during his previous tenure with the team.

Additionally, OL Colin Baxter (San Diego), WR Marty Gilyard (St. Louis), QB Kevin McConnell (Miami), and S Andrew Sendejo (Dallas) were claimed off of waivers.

TE Josh Baker, LB Matthias Berning, G Trevor Canfield, DT Jarron Gilbert, G Matt Kroul, CB Julian Posey and WR Patrick Turner were signed to the practice squad.
